A Guide to Engagement Ring Styles

A Guide to Engagement Ring Styles

Finding a life partner is hard, but choosing the right engagement ring shouldn't be. Knowing where to start can be overwhelming. There are many choices to make: metal, budget, diamonds, style… tackling each choice individually will make it easier to find the right ring. To that end, this article will focus specifically on engagement ring styles.

1. Solitaire-Style Rings

As the name implies, solitaire-style engagement rings feature just one diamond. This style is classic, timeless, and easy to pair with wedding bands. Because a solitaire ring features just one diamond mounted on a band without other diamonds to accent, the beauty of the diamond you choose takes center stage.

2. Pave-Style Rings

Pave-style rings are similar to solitaires in that they feature one main stone. The difference is that the entire band of a pave-style engagement ring will also be encrusted with small diamonds. Some rings feature diamonds that go all the way around, while others only have the stones set halfway down the band.

3. Halo-Style Rings

Halo-style diamond rings have been everywhere for the past few decades. They feature one center stone surrounded by a ring of smaller diamonds, which can accentuate the center diamond, making it appear larger. You may also see a “double halo” which has two rings of diamonds to create an even larger look.

4. Three-Stone Style Rings

Solitaires may be the best-known type of diamond ring, but they're certainly far from the only classic style. Three-stone rings have the same timeless beauty. It is often said that the three stones represent the relationship's past, present, and future. Because of the symbolism in this style, three-stone rings will always be a popular choice.

5. Cathedral-Style Rings

Cathedral-style rings are similar to solitaires in that they only feature one stone, but they have arches of metal in addition to prongs holding the stone, which creates a sophisticated, regal impression. Cathedral-style rings are a traditional option that won't go out of style.

6. Bezel-Style Rings

Bezel-style rings feature center stones encased in gold instead of individual prongs, and are a very secure and low maintenance setting style. Bezel-style rings are making a comeback because they're great for brides who want a unique ring with a vintage aesthetic.
